I forged the hummingbird from a single piece of iron bar of 1/2" square. Sometimes when I can't think of what to do or when it's cold in the shop in the morning, I make a hummingbird or some feathers. There is something magical about birds. They fly. Birds are light and float on air. To render them in iron, or even a small part of one, is one of those things that makes me think about the world and how we see it. It will get my creative thoughts moving. Anyway, I then brazed it onto the cuff using brass filler. The cuff was forged from a flat cut off end piece.

Iron is not difficult to care for. It's tough. It's mostly unbreakable, and unlike fine metals it doesn't tarnish. It does oxidize in the form of rust if it sits in the sun or water or both, but that doesn't happen often. If it does a little wax or oil will take care of it.
